RUGBY FOOTBALL.

MAORI TEAM'S TOUR. The Pioneer (Maori) Battalion's Rugby football team, which recently returned to New Zealand from France and England, will play the Canterbury Rugby Union's representatives in Christchurch on Saturday, May 31. . Some weeks ago the secretary to the Pioneer Battalion's team . asked the Canterbury Rugby Union to arrange a match for Wednesday, May 28. The union agreed to playing a match, but suggested that Saturday, June 7, would be a better date if it could be made to fit into the Pioneer team's itinerary. Now, however, the Maoris' secretary has telegraphed to the union asking that the game be definitely arranged for May 31, and adding that the team will play in Dunedin on May 24, and in Invercargill on May 28, and will probably arrive in Christchurch on the 29th. The party probably will number 25. The Canterbury Rugby Union's executive officials have agreed to the proposed date.
