LABOUR QUESTIONS.
THE FLAXWORKERS. Press Association. PALMERSTON N., May 19. The Elaxmill Owners' Association have given notice to the secretary of the Emjployees' Union that it is their intention to cancel the agreement under which they have been working, and which provides for a minimum wage of 14/- per day. The union will hold a meeting on Saturday next to consider the situation which has arisen. WELLINGTON WATERSIDERS. Pnss Association. WELLINGTON, May 19. A stop-work meeting of watersiders deeided to-day to hold a secret ballot on the question 'of the acceptance of the new agreement with the employers. WATERSIDERS' DISPUTE. A SETTLEMENT LIKELY. The watersiders at Lyttelton held a stop-work meeting at Lyttelton to-day between 10 a.m.. and noon, to consider a proposal from the employers regarding the present wages dispute. The matter was fully discussed, and it was decided to conduct a ballot to-morrow and Wednesday. The men, however, will not cease work for the purpose of voting. The indications from the tone of the meeting were that a settlement will be effected. The present award runs out in December. From other centres the reports are that a settlement is regarded as likely.
