The Rev. Dr Gibb, of St. John's (Presbyterian) Church, Wellington, has been indisposed for some time. He intends to take a complete rest shortly.

Lieutenant-Colonel A. B. Charters, C.M.G., D.5.0., returned on Saturday from a visit to Otago and Southland. He will leave for Wellington by the Mararoa on Monday. Messrs H. Holland, W. Goss and Hi H. Smith, who attended the Tunnel Conference at Arthur's Pass, returned to Christchurch on Saturday evening. The other Christchurch delegate, Mr H. J. Marriner, went on to Hokitika on Saturday afternoon. The Mayor of Christchurch (Dr H. T. J. Thacker, M.P.) leaves to-night for Wellington where he has been invited to preside at the Town-planning Conference on Wednesday. As member for Christchurch East he will attend a caucus of the Liberal Party on Thursday. Dr Thacker will probably return to Christchurch on Friday. The Hon. W. D. S. MaeDonald (Minister of Mines and Agriculture) arrived in Christchurch from the West Coast on Saturday evening, and went north by the Monowai later the same evening. The Minister made an extensive tour of Westland, Marlborough and Nelson, in company with Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P. ■ Mr Seddon is staying in Christchurch with his sister, Mrs Bean. Major H. P. Pickerill, who arrived in Dunedin on Friday evening, after four years' active service, was formerly Professor of Dentistry at the Otago University. He was met at the station by a large number of students, who carried him shoulder high to his motor ear. Major Pickerill will be in charge of the AVoodside annexe, which has been specially fitted up to deal with jaw cases.

A. service in memory of the late Mr J.'A. Efford, who was a patriarch of the Order of Sons and Daughter of Temperance, was held in the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church last night, Mr Efford having been a member of the choir of the church for 46 years. .There was a large congregation present. The Eev. J.. J. North occupied the pulpit and spoke in appreciation of the services that -Mr Efford had rendered to- the cause of temperance. I At the Theatre Royal on Saturday the competitors in the recent competitions made presentations to Mrs J. H. Cocks (accompanist), Mrs T. E. Hall, who was in charge of the refreshments, and Mr H. Sweney (stage manager}, in recognition of the services they had rendered. Mr H. Phlpps, in making the presentations, eulogised the good work that the recipients had' done. He thanked Mrs Hall specially for supplying refreshments to the competitors at all sessions.
