Mm Hamish M. Lean (Mt. Hutt) is In town. Mrs Boixrts returned to Mt. Soniers yesterday. Mrs B. Friedlander (Ashburton) i* staying at Warner'*. Mr and Mr* P. B. Hark returned to Wellington last evening. Mra and Mis* Lillii rai>, of Invereargill, are on a visit to this city. Mra aid Mia* Roust II returned to Wellington by last night'* boat, after a visit to Christ.-hur.'b. Mr* C. F. Rol>ert*, Miss Boberts, and Mr* Blrthman, Sydney visitor*, who fcave been staying in Canterbury for tke last few months, came up to Christ - eharfb from Timaru last evening, and Intend remaining at the Clarendon for a week or two, before returning to Australia. From Ashburton come* the news of an interesting golden wedding that was celebrated there on Monday, the principals being Mr an I Mrs John Hefford, two well-known residents of that town. Tke Bev. George Miller, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, presided at the golden wedding function, nnd offered congratulations to Mr and Mrs Hefford on tke long and useful life they had been permitted to spend together. Amongst the guests present were Mr liight (Wellington), who had been a guest at the welding 50 years ago, ami also Mr F. Godfrey (brother of the bride), who bad been the best man. Mr and Mrs Hefford (the latter formerly M:-- Esther Godfrey), were married in St. Andrew's Manse, Christchurch, by tke Bev. Charles Fraser, on April 2S, 1869. After first residing at Templeton, and later at the Belwyn, they took up tkeir residence in Ashburton in 1876, and have lived there ever since. They have living three sous, three daughters, and 19 grandchildren.
