CARPENTER'S SUICIDE.
BESTJLT OF MELANCHOLIA. Whilst in a state of melancholia, consequent upon a nervous breakdown, George Walton Dale, aged 64, a carpenter, residing with his wife at 271 Milton Street, Sydenham, hanged himself late on Saturday afternoon. The deceased, according to the evidence of Mrs Dale at the inquest, conducted by Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., yesterday, had threatened to take his life for "some time past, and had left ietters to that effect. He returned from n long walk at noon on Saturday, and reeined to be in good spirits, but at about 5 o'clock she found him lianging by a rope from the cross beam on the parlour door. She called Thomas William Kerr, who cut the body down, and she then immediately sent for the police and doctor. Drs Symes, Anderson and Crooke had each attended to her husband at various times. There was insanity in the deceased's family. A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned.
