INCOME TAX.
—•■ STATEMENT BY MINISTER. Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 21. The Minister of Finance made a statement to-night regarding the collection of income tax this year. "The tax is due on January 28," said Sir Joseph Ward, "and the Commissioner has advised me that in the ordinary course the notices for payment of the tax should be issued about January 22. .The department has already bogun the issue of some of the notices, and during the week the notices to joint stock companies will be got out, and also a section of the notices to individuals. The rest of the notices will be late. They will be issued in sequence, and a new due date fixed, in accordance with the provisions of section 127 of the Land and Income Tax Act. It is expected that the notices will be cleared just before the end of February. Up till now work has been concentrated on the issue of the notices to companies, as they are the largest taxpayers, but it is expected that all, the notices will be issued in time to enable the department to get the revenue in before the end of March. Although the notices are late this year, they are not so late as they were last year, when the last notices were issued in July. We are asking that the whole of the amount of the tax be paid in one sum this year, in order to get all payments complete by March 31."
