HARBOUR BOARD.

SPECIAL MEETING.

A meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held this morning for the purpose-of electing a chairman and committees. The following members were present: Messrs T. A. Blackley, T. 1). Boag, J. J. Graham, F. Horrell, E. J. Howard, A. Kayc, H. F. Nicoll, G. Scott, S. K. Sleigh, H. B. Sorensen, J. Storry, W. J. Waiter, Hon. R. Moore, and Dr 11. T. J. Thacker.

For the position of chairman, Messrs Horrell and Kave were nominated by Mr T. i). Boag and Dr Thacker respectively. In nominating Mr Kaye, Dr Thacker said that the city members had in the pas! been absolutely suppressed by a majority of the board, lie did not want to raise party affairs, and iii Mr Kaye he felt that they would have a man who bad the welfare of ihe city at hear!. He was a man of world-wide experience, and he did not think 'here would he any more lilting man (ban Mr Kave. After several members had spoken, the two nominations were put hefore the meeting, and Mi' Kaye was elected with, a majority of four voles. Mr J. J. Graham then moved that the chairman's honorarium for the succeeding 12 months be fixed at 11200. This was agreed to unanimously. Mr Kaye returned thanks for his election, and said that he would do his best to get the spirii of town versus country which existed in the board to disappear. Dr Thacker nominated Mr G. Scot! for the position of deputy-chairman. This was seconded by Mr Graham. Mr Nicoll nominated Mr Boag, and the nomination was seconded bv Mr J. Storry. On being put to the meeting, Mr Scott was elected. The whole board was elected to the Harbour Improvement Committee, seven members to form a quorum.

A Finance Committee consisting of the whole hoard, five members to form a quorum, was elected. The following were elected to the Sailors' Home Committee: Messrs J. J. Graham, K. J. Howard. A. Kave, T. I). Boag. On the motion of Mr J. ,T. Graham, il was decided that the secretary should forward a letter of thanks to the outgoing members.
