TO COMBAT U-BOATS.
ITALIAN MEASURES. Renter's Telegrams. (Received March 12, 1.55 p.m.) ROME, March 11. In the Chamber of Deputies the Minister of Marine detailed Italy's anti-submarine measures, including {he arming of numerous places on fhe coast, the organisation of coastguards, and of barriers and other defensive works. The depth of seas jyccluded the employment of nets. As regards methods of chasing submarines, 200 small craft were employed in the Otranto Channel, and its mouths, and numerous aeroplanes and squadrons of small airsh'os were also employed. Already over 1000 guns had been wsed in the arming of merchantmen, and 00 per cent of Italian ships were now armed.
Several hundred wireless plants bad been installed on ships. The system of signalling between ships' wireless and aeroplanes was successful. The large number of sailings and arrivals showed that the measures had not been taken in vain.
