RANGIORA.
The Rangiora County Council mel on Saturday. Present:—Messrs F. Horrell (chairman), A. Mcintosh, H. Tallott, W. Stalker, M. H. Stokes, and H. Garrett.
It was resolved that the clerk should take the necessary steps to secure the property at Cust from Mr 0. Miles for a gravel pit. Notice was received from the Treasury that the annual subsidy amounting to £O7l 10/3, had been placed to the credit of the council. A circular soliciting assistance in providing requisites for the comfort and entertainment of the soldiers on the second troopship of a reinforcement draft was received, but no action was taken. In response to a circular from the National Efficiency Board, the chairman was requested to convene a public meeting for the purpose of electing a committee of inquiry and advice for the county.
Thc clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps in connection with the election of two persons to represent the Rangiora Riding on the Waimakariri Harbour Board. The Minister of Labour wrote that Thursday had been fixed as the weekly half-holiday. It was resolved to support the Mackenzie County Council's resolution asking the Government to impose a Customs duty of 10 per cent. ad valorem on motor tyres, the money so collected to be refunded to local bodies for the upkeep of roads.
It was resolved to sue for all rates not paid by March 31. A tender of £SO from R. J. McMillan for clearing the Cam River, and the tenders of B. Ward and \V. J. I. Doggctt for cleaning a number of drains were accepted. The receipts for the month were V.2070 4/4, and the bank credit balance was reported to be i' 1528 1/3. Accounts for £385 10/1 were passed for payment.
