AUSTRIA GRANTS "AUTONOMY" TO ALBANIA.
FORGETS COUNTRY IS ALREADY FREE. AND AN OPEN ENEMY OF CENTRAL POWERS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received March 12, 30.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 11. The "Sunday Times" states that, with a view to seeking a pretext 1o enrol Albanians in the armies of the Central Powers, the Austro-Hungarian Government lias issued a proclamation of the autonomy of Albania, under Austria-Hungary's protectorate. Influential Albanians in various districts have protested against the futileness of such a measure towards an independent country, which, through the leader of its Government (Essad Pasha) has already declared war or. the Entente's enemies. Essad Pasha has been fighting with the Allies in Macedonia for many months, having gone to Saloniea with his army in conjunction with the Serbian's. Albania comitadjis, who will fight for anyone who has bloodmoney to spend, have assisted the Austrian* again*, the Italians on the Albanian-Serbian frontier.
