From Our Own CarrtsponHmt The monthly meeting of the Rakaia branch of the W.C.T.U. was held on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Boag pre sided. Six members received the white ribbon badge. One new member was elected, making a roll number of 19. At a meeting of the Court Star of Rakaia, A.0.F.. held on Wednesday evening, a vote of condolence with the relatives of P.C.R. Bro. K. 0. Smith, recently killed in action, was carried in silence. A meeting of the committee of the Rakaia Horticultural Society was held or. Thursday evening, Mr A. Gordon presiding. A protest was received against the awards in the darning class. The lirst and second-prize winners were disqualified, no prizes in the class were awarded, and the entry fees of the other two exhibitors were ordered to be refunded. Thirty new members were elected. A rough balance-sheet of the late show was presented and showed a balance of approximately £."iO. A social evening, under the auspices of the Rakaia Soldiers' Entertainment Society, was held on Thursday night for the purpose of farewelling Trooper G. Baxter and Privates D. Cornelius, 11. Pluck, and R. Burrows, of the tilth Reinforcement. Trooper Baxter was unable to be present. The iron. C. A. C. Hardy occupied the chair, and wished the soldiers Cod-speed and a safe return. The presentation of a well tilled soldiers' hold-all to each of the men was made by Mrs Morland. Private Cornelius briefly returned thanks and the soldiers were heartily cheered.
