The Government handed the formal acquiescence to the British Legation. Oilier Athens messages state that the ultimatum was due to (he necessity for securing the safety of the Allies' fleet in view of the activity of pro-German societies in Greece. The forts of which the surrender was required commanded the moorings of the Franco-British fleets.
