MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) CIVIL BUSINESS. CLAIM FOR WAGES FAILS. J. Dransfield, an old-age pensioner, for whom Mr F. K., Hunt appeared, sued A. G. Boardman (Mr A. J. Malley) for £23 10/- wages alleged to be due. Plaintiff set out. that he went to Boardman's place in November last and started to work. He remained with him till July 3, working all the time. No arrangement as to wages was made, but Boardman told him he would pay him for everything he did. Occasionally he got tobacco and other goods from Boardman. When plaintiff was going, he asked Boardman for his money, and Boardman told him he had had quite enough. .„ Defendant denied ever having contracted to pay plaintiff. Plaintiff had come to his house and asked for shelter and defendant had taken him in. He had done just as he pleased and no restrictions were placed on him. Defendant kept him in clothes and tobacco, and paid his lodging for several weeks. After hearing evidence, his Worship non-suited plaintiff, with costs. MOTOR CAR REPAIRS. J. S. Hawkes, Ltd. (Mr Alpers) sued W. Herald for £2 4/6 in respect of work done to a motor car, the property of the defendant. Defendant, who was not represented by counsel, had paid £1 into court in satisfaction of the claim, and' contended that the sum sued for was an overcharge. After evidence had been heard, judgment was given for plaintiffs, with DEFAULT CASES. Redpath and Sons v. Terry Bros., 17/- (costs only); George H. Judd v. Jonathan Ward, £53 7/2- Booth, Macdonald and Co. v. George Illingworth, 18/9; Hunt Bros, v. G.
