ALLIES DRIVE BACK PRUSSIANS.
FRENCH ADVANCE IN LORRAINE. AUSTRIANS IN POLAND. (Received September 1, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 31. The High Commissioner reports:— The French.Embassy states that the j left wing' of the Allies has taken the | offensive and is driving the Prussian J ..Guards back to Guise* j Heavy fighting to the south-west of! Mczicves is due to the advance by an army under the Grown Prince. j The French have taken the offensive! in Lorraine. ..,..". The enemy have pushed back, intact, the Allied line from the Sambre to the Soirmle- fiveiy and l overrun north-west France with cavalry. The Russians are approaching the fortresses of Tbom and Graudenz. The Austrians are invading Russian Poland, and are advancing towards Lublin.
