PROBLEMS OF FIJI.

LECTURE BY REV. KNIGHT. The' Rev. R. Knight, who recently arrived from Melbourne to take over the pastorate of the Durham Street Methodist Church, delivered a lecture on "The Problem of Fiji" in the Brougham Street, Hall, Sydenham, on Tuesday evening. The Rev. A. N, Scotter there was a large attendance of members and adherents "of the Sydenham Methodist Church. The lecturer stated that although he had never been in Fiji, he had met the Rev. «T. W. Burton, who was a wellknown authority on Fijian affairs, and he was quite sure that the audience would be satisfied with any statement coming from that source. So far as he could learn the great problem of Fiji was bound up in the immigrant coolie people who had been brought from India in thousands to carry on the sugar planting industry. These people would be . a menace to the Fijianswunless they could be brought to accept* tne Christian religion, as the native race had done, and it was the duty of Christian to assist in that work. ■
