GOLF.

CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS. A particularly attractive programme has been arranged for the Canterbury golf championships, to be held this year on the Christchurch Club's links at Shirley. The meeting opens on April 11, and closes on April 18, between which dates eleven important events will be decided. The chief of these is, of course, the amateur championship of Canterbury. For the last six years this match has been shared between B. C. Rutherford and B. B. Wood. The latter won the premiership in 1910 and the two following years, whilst Mr Eutherford won in 1908, 1909, and last year. Both players are well in form, and as usual this match should provide some of the most interesting play of the year. The ladies' championship was won last year by Miss Pearce, of Wellington, and this year again she will be able to defend her title.' Before last year the names of Miss Eutherford and Miss N. B. Campbell appeared alternately on the roll of the championship as far back as 1908. Another particularly interesting match is the Islington Foursomes. This was first played in. 1911, and since that year, w[hen it was won by M. H. Godby and Miss Symes, B. C. Eutherford and Miss Eutherford have been the holders. In the professional events, .always interesting, there' should, also be keen competition. The "pros." match is a two-round medal-game, for which prizes of £l6, £6>?and £3 are offered. ."
