U.S.A. DEFEATS BRITAIN FOURTEEN POINTS TO NINE Reed. 10.10 a.m. NEW YORK, Wed. At Westbury (New York), United States retained the International Polo Cup today, defeating Britain by 14 points to 9. A crowd of 35,000 saw the British team play their rivals to a standstill and hold the upper hand for most of the first five chukkers. Lacey, with four goals,'Roark, with three, were the stars of the challengers’ attack, getting away repeatedly for brilliant scoring runs. One of Roark’s best mounts, Joybells, broke down in the fourth chukker, fracturing a leg, and was destroyed. After five chukkers, the Americans put on a blazing rally in the sixth, routing the British by the end of the game. Erie Pedley ran wild, scoring eight goals. He notched six in the last three chukkers. Hoping contributed two in the sixth.
