PRIVATE TEAM

W. TOWNSEND’S LIST OF HORSES ROYAL DOULTON’S PROGRESS The Messrs Roulston have a very large team at Pukekohe under the direction of W. Townsend, and it is probable that the familiar black and cardinal spots will be carried with a great deal more success this season. In commission are Royal Doulton, Sea Song. Haviland Ding Dong, Micrometer, Baromett r and Dayoma (two-year-old filly by Day Comet—Tecoma). Among Royal Doulton’s triumphs last term were the Herries’ Memorial Cup at Te Aroha. and the Summer Cup at Ellerslie, while invariably she always raced conspicuously over middle distances. The fine looking daughter of Romeo is reported to be nice and forward for spring racing, and. although others will have it on her in the matter of racing condition at Avondale, such a classy mare should not be long coming into her best form. Tor the perseverance and patience exercised on Micrometer the connections deserve a fitting reward. Earlier in her career the black more held out hopes of a fine future, but she went amiss and has been more or less unsound since. The affliction to her leg lias yielded satisfactorily, however, and the opinion is entertained that she will reveal all her old dash when thoroughly keyed up. Micrometer has shaped impressively over a distance of ground, and some of the leading events on provincial programmes may be within her compass. The easy tracks of late have allowed for that veteran. Barometer, to continue doing active service. He has raced on several occasions in the past season, but has often returned to the paddock lame, necessitating time and care to keep him in commission. Barometer’s race in the Jellicoe Handicap ;at tho recent Pakuranga Hunt meeting was a revelation of how the old campaigner holds his pace, and if he remains sound it would not be too much to expect a furtli *r important success with him. Dayoma was the only three-vear-old handled, but she will not race yet awhile. She is a half-sister to Quincoma and Royal Doulton. "
