A motor-cycle mechanic, Mr. Angus McColl, under the name of “Mac,” Glenomaru, Otago, will receive the £2.000 prize in the Rugby Art Union, which was drawn at New Plymouth last Friday. Mr. McColl, who is a returned soldier, has been in the city for only four months. He spent his boyhood in Glenomaru, a little Otago township, and his friends knew' him only as “Mac.” It was difficult to locate him in the city, today. He held only the one ticket, which he bought at the
Auckland Winter Exhibition, promptly forgetting about the Art Union until be saw the result of the draw on Sunday. It was not until the following day that he learned the number of the ticket, and was sure that he held the winning number. The ticket is now in the safe of an Auckland bank awaiting the payment of the £2,000.
Mr. McColl was not at work this morning and could not be found. It was announced that he intended to spend a fortnight's holiday with his relatives in the South. He is a married man with four children. For some years, Mr. McColl lived in Hamilton, where he was known among his friends for his retiring and unassuming nature.
