FIRST-CLASS SURFACE
BIRKENHEAD-ALBANY HIGHWAY WORK CONCRETE PENETRATION The experimental reconstruction work by the concrete penetration method being done on the BirkenheadAlbanv Main Highway was inspected yesterday by members of the executive of the Auckland Automobile Association. The party was much impressed by the work, and the president, Mr. A. Grayson, expressed the opinion that this method would provide a first-class surface. In the executive’s opinion the present experimental section was a decided improvement on the section laid down over 12 months ago. The latest method of penetration was absolutely effective. An examination of the short stretch of concrete, which had been under test for 12 months, proved satisfactory, especially when the method by which it was laid down was taken into consideration. The present stretch of concrete was being laid down under much improved methods, and he considered it should be entirely satisfactory. Mr. Grayson asserted that the association would watch with great interest the effect of road traffic when tlie new length of concrete was open for general use, and should it come up to expectations there was no doubt that it would revolutionise roadmaking in the Auckland district.
