WATER FOR MANUKAU
AGREEMENT WITH PAPATOETOE A conference was held recently between delegates representing the Papatoetoe Town Board and the Manukau County Council regarding the supply of water to the county areas adjacent to the town board boundary. Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, said his body was desirous of ascertaining whether the town board would develop its source of supply in the event of I the present source proving inadequate j to meet the demand in the town dis- ■ trict and counts* area at some future date. Mr. Smytheman, chairman of the ; Papatoetoe Town Board, stated that the present supply was capable of pro- ; viding 1.000.0d0 gallons a week, and j it was estimated by experts that a similar quantity of water was available by . driving a shaft from the existing bore for a short distance. The present consumption in the town district was approximately 125,000 gallons a week for approximately 300 dwellings, so that plenty of water was available at th© present time to meet the probable demand in the town district and county area. It was resolved that the solicitors for the town board and county should draft an agreement covering the water supply proposals for consideration by the two local authorities. It was decided, on the proposal of the chairman, to authorise the county town clerk to advertise the council’s intention to consider a motion to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise a loan of £13.300 lor water supply purposes in the Papatoetoe riding water supply special rating area. At the meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening it was decided to purchase an additional pump, similar to the one at present in use at the waterworks.
