ACCIDENTAL DEATH

MOTOR-CYCLIST'S FATAL INJURIES INTERVAL OF NINE MONTHS How a man die,d nine months after receiving a fractured skull in a collision with a motor-car was revealed yesterday at the inquest concerning the death of Henry Crowne. The coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., found that death was accidental. * The circumstances showed that, following the accident on June 29, 1929. Crowne was admitted to hospital in a grave condition and was discharged on August 10. He again entered the hospital on March 27, and died next day. The collision occurred at the corner of Tranmere Road and Arabi Street, Sandringham, according to Mrs. Hilda V. Peart, an eye-witness. Crowne was riding a motor-cycle down Tranmere Road and a car, which was proceeding along Arabi Street, struck the cycle at the corner, throwing it to the roadside. The injured man was lying unconscious under his motor-cvcle. The motorist. Horace Arthur Dodman, builder, of Stewart Road, Mount Albert, described the accident, which he said was unavoidable. He did not see Crowne until 15 feet from the corner, and he could not avoid the crash by accelerating, so he applied his brakes. The front of the car struck the motor-cycle side-car, which glanced off, and the motor-cycle capsized. Dr. W. Gilmore, who made a postmortem examination, said death was caused by a fracture of the skull, which showed signs of healing, but which could be easily parted. Laceration of the brain had been present for some time.
