THIEVES ACTIVE
SERVICE STATIONS SUFFER TWO PLACES ENTERED Two Auckland petrol service stations suffered from the activities of thieves on Monday night. One station was broken into and burgled, while a petrol pump at another was forced open. When Mr. J. Ewington, of Ewington Bros. NgaO service station, Mount Eden, arrived at work yesterday morning he found the front door of the premises swinging open. An attempt had evidently been made to force the door with a jemmy. This had failed, and a window had been smashed, permitting the thief to get at the lock. The thief must first have tried to effect an entrance through the back door, which bears extensive jemmy marks. This entrance was locked with a heavy bar. About £ 3 in cash -was taken, together with some accessories, including spanners, fillers, and lamp bulbs. “But the thief will have a hard job if h© tries to get in again,” said Mr. Ewington today.
At the Harp of Erin station, on the Great South Road, the lock of a petrol pump was smashed. It is thought that only a small quantity of spirit was taken.
