TOFUA GOES TO NIUE

ENGINE TROUBLE ON MAUI POMARE ONE TRIP ONLY When the Tofua leaves on Saturday on her monthly island tour she will iinclude Niue in her ports of call. The Maui Pomare, which recently took up the Niue run, is laid up in Wellington, with engine trouble, and it is believed that the repairs will not be completed for another six weeks. The Tofua, therefore, is to take passengers and cargo to Niue. These, in the ordinary course of events, would have gone by the Maui Pomare. The Tofua will not bring any fruit back from Niue on the return journey, but it is expected that she will bring passengers.

It is believed, also, that the Government is endeavouring to get another vessel to take the place of the Maui Pomare during the time her engines are being repaired. The islanders on Niue would be in rather an isolated state but for the call with food supplies which is to be made by the Tofua.
