TOO MANY BUS SERVICES

POSITION AT BIRKENHEAD

“Birkenhead is served by three services whereas there is room for only one, and proprietors are taking advantage of this to dodge their responsibilities,” declared Mr. H. A. Campbell at a meeting of the No. 2 Omnibus District Licensing Authority yesterday afternoon when a complaint was received from residents of Pupuke Road, Birkenhead, regarding failures in time-table.

Mr. Campbell outlined the position, mentioning that, whereas all three services were obliged under their licences to meet certain boats, very often only one bus went to the wharf. The three proprietors had come to an agreement among themselves and used to run a combined skeleton service. At the hour mentioned in the complaint it was usual for two services to change over, and on this occasion one had failed to complete his full circuit. “They must adhere to their timetables or they may lose their licences,” said Mr. J. Hislop,-in moving that the three proprietors be warned that future breaches would be looked on seriously.
