BETTER FERRY WANTED
STEAMER UNSUITABLE
NORTHCOTE COUNCIL’S VIEWS
The inadequacy of the NorthcoteBirkenhead ferry service during rush hours, particularly on the daily 5.12 p.m. trip from the City and the 1 12.20 p.m. trip on Saturdays, was stressed by Cr. P. C. Cross at a meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last evening. In winter months the Albatross was an unsuitable boat, he said, affording no shelter from the weather for the majority of the passengers. In the recent squally and choppy weather passengers had been nervous owing to the boat being overcrowded. He moved that the Devonport Steam Ferry Company be asked to provide a larger boat for the trips mentioned. Cr. H. J. C. George, in supporting the motion, declared that the Albatross was more than 25 years old and . although, perhaps, suitable during the day for ordinary traffic, was entirely unsuitable during rush hours. Other members stressed the urgency of the request and decided unanimously to ask the Ferry Company to provide better facilities.
