250 Scouts Required On Saturday, June 23, a clothes drive for tho poor and needy will be carried out by the Commercial Travellers’ Club, and between 3 a.m. and 1 p.m. on that day 250 Scouts in uniform will be required to lend their services. Depots will be established at various points, details of which will be advised later. Circulars will be dispatched to Scoutmasters, who are requested to report immediately to headquarters the number of boys available, so that arrangements may be made accordingly. Tho business of organising the Scouts’ services is in the hands of District Scoutmaster Tribble. On Friday, June 13, St. David’s Troop will hold a parents’ evening to which the parents of the Scouts. Cubs and Rovers are cordially invited.

The Advisory Board met last Thursday evening at headquarters with a full attendance. Commissioner Holdsworth was in the chair. First Class Tests The next First Class tests will be held at Western Springs on Saturday, June 21, and entries close with Mr. Matheson, secretary of the Examination Board, or at Headquarters, on June 14. No late entries will be accepted. Scouts entering for cooking tests are requested to take their own supplies of firewood, and those who are to be tested for the Ambulance badge are asked not to forget splints and bandages.

Proficiency Badge Night The Proficiency Badge night timed to take place on June 12. has been cancelled. Wednesday, July 9, has been set aside for the next Proficiency Badge examinations, which will be held at the headquarters of the West Street troop. Entries close with Mr. Matheson or at Headquarters on June 30. No late entries will be accepted.

No. 1 Division District Scoutmaster Fred E. Walls advises that the meeting of Scouters of No. 1 Division will be held on Wednesday, June 18, and not tonight, as previously arranged.

The First Kitchener Troop reports: “The unfortunate circumstances and difficulties which caused the recent lean period in the Kitchener Troop have at last been overcome and, with the return to Friday night parades, with- District Rover Leader Bach as Acting-Scoutmaster, matters now look very bright. Our numbers have risen considerably in a very short time, and recruits are still coming along. “The hard times in the troop recently brought many old Kitcheners to the rescue, and Mr. Bach has had little difficulty in forming a Kitchener Rover Crew, consisting of seven members, so that the Kitchener Group with Cubs, Scouts and Rovers now has more than 50 members.

“The Rovers are holding their birthday social this month, and preparations for a concert already are in hand. The only difficulty at present is that a suitable Rover Den has yet to be found.”

Great Lone Eagle, of the First Devonport Troop, writes: “Now that the school holidays are over, the troop is preparing for a parents’ evening, to be held about June 26. The Cubs will also take part.

“Second Farrelly has transferred to the Sea Scouts, and Scout Pope has risen to his rank. Scout Pope has passed his Second class and Cyclist badge tests. Second Flemming has also gained his Cyclists’ badge. “On June 1, a patrol, under Assist-ant-Scoutmaster Gale, represented the troop at the King’s Birthday parade held at St. Matthew’s Church.”

Silver Tongue reports for the First Cornwell Pack: “The doings of the First Cornwell Pack have been numerous and varied since Easter. The Sixers and Patrol Leaders of the troop combined on Anzac Day and laid a wreath in memory of Jack Cornwell on the Cenotaph. Recently the pack has won five proficiency badges and five second stars. “Last Thursday evening the Pack celebrated its seventh birthday. About GO people were present, including the troop. The greater part of the evening was spent in playing games, after the presentation of badges and service stars. The birthday cake was given by Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Elmslie.

“All Cubs are asked to remember the church parade next Sunday morning. They will meet at Potter’s Park, Balmoral, at 10.30.”

The Edendale Cubmaster writes: “The Edendale Cubs spent a very pleasant day on June 3 at Mangere Mountain. It was to have been a hike, but Mr. Hodgson kindly offered to take us in bis truck.

“Scouting and tracking games were carried out, and a climb to the top of the mountain. Twenty-three Cubs took part.”

Work is now in progress on the installation of 800 telephones for the Vatican. The Pope’s is to be of solid gold. -
