Under the “Totem-Pole"
Letters to Redfeather are answered as follow:
Harvest Moon: Your “Song Boy” has come piping down the Wigwam trail, Harvest Moon, and all the birds flew nearer Lo listen. The picture is delightful, and I am not surprised that it inspired that charming story. Yes, I still remember Fen. He is one of your happiest inspirations.
Amber Light: I am so glad to hear that a Guide company has been formed in Thames. You will be quite happy now. Best wishes from the "Wigwam to all its new members. We must have a scribe.
Flying Beetle: Thank you for your long descriptive letter and your story. If you go to the library you will find several books on the art of short-story writing, and also the world’s best short stories which have been collected from time to time. Any of O. Henry’s stories might act as models, and there is one called ‘‘Tennessee's Partner,” by Bret I-farte, which in my opinion, contains all the essentials of a perfect short story. My best wishes to flying Beetle. Sun Cloud: Welcome home. Sun Cloud. It is many moons since you sought the Wigwam trail, but I am glad you have followed- up our page each week. How sad that Crystal Lake is in need of leave of absence. I hope she will soon recover her health. A sheaf of greetings for First Cambridge. Golden Pine: Thank you for your Manurewa notes, Golden Pine. I hope your social will be a great success. Flying Cloud: Yes, trumpet lilies have a fragrance all their own. Perhaps the first trumpet lilies grew in fairyland. Your chief will always be at the Wigwam when you return from hunting. I could almost hear the crackle of your log fire as I read your letter. Red Star: A query from Harvest Moon: “I wonder when Red Star and Little Swift Canoe are going to send in some more verse? I do love reading it, and have looked for it lately without result.” Which reminds me that there is a poetry competition announced today, Red Star. Silver Tongue: Greetings, First Cornwell. I was glad to have news of your birthday party. How is Lone Wolf, of your far-famed tribe? Sudden Thought: New footsteps on the Wigwam trail as Sudden Thought takes her place in the friendly circle. I hope I shall soon hear all about my new Brave.
Gold Moccasin: The Hikurangi news arrived in plenty of time. Gold Moccasin. That was an interesting hike. My best wishes to your company. Sea Maid: So now you all know how to make damper? You will all be eager for the next hike. Thank you for your news of the Russell Company. Great Lone Eagle: Thank you, faithful one. Your notes have joined the great scroll. I am watching your progress in the Popularity Campaign.
