SATISFACTORY POSITION RECEIPTS EXCEED ESTIMATES According to the reports presented at the monthly meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday aftei - noon, the board’s revenue is being satisfactorily maintained. The chairman, Mr. Nl. TI. Wynyard presided. The treasurer and accountant, Mr. F. Garratt, said that even should there be a serious drop in the succeeding months, the figures indicated in the reports afforded surety and notwithstanding the deficit in Manukau accounts, the aggregate of the board's estimates would be realised. The Manukau receipts still showed a downward movement. The month's total of £466 was £142 less, and the eight months’ total of £4.171 was £944 lower than for the 1929 periods. Reports showed that receipts for May totalled £34.491?. and were £39<» ahead of those for May last year. The total for the eight months of the financial year. £278,032. was £15,032 greater than that for the corresponding period of 1929. The estimates, allowing due proportion for the eight months, have been exceeded by £16,432 —Waitemata £17,208, less Manukau deficit of £775.
Shipping arrivals during May, including 542 local coastal vessels, totalled 606 vessels of an aggregate of 205,109 net tons. Compared with the corresponding period of last year, tli** large merchant shipping showed a decrease of one vessel, but an increase of 8,419 tons in ret. tonnage. The local coastal vessels’ return shows decreases of 35 vessels and 2.673 net tons.
Arrivals at Onehunga numbered 23 vessels, with an aggregate of 3.375 n«*t tons, which’ is a decrease of thre*> vessels and 2.950 net tons.
