POTATO MARKET WEEK

POSITION IN CANTERBURY Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The oats market has shown a slight easing, and this is especially the case in regard to the prompt position. Today the supply is available in the South, but the demand has eased, and with it the price. A grade Gartons may be secured in the South at 3s lid, f.0.b., s.i., and for spread delivery at 4s to 4s Id, f.0.b.. s.i. B grade can be obtained at 3s lOd, f.0.b., s.i., Bluff, for both prompt and spread delivery. Chaff prices, however, are firm, and the quotation for prompt delivery is '£7 a ton, f.0.b., s.i., equivalent to £5 10s a ton on trucks. Chaff for June delivery is worth £7 5s a ton, f.0.b., s.i., and up to £7 10s a ton, f.0.b., s.i., has been paid for July-August-September delivery. The quotations for wheat are as follows:—ss 8d to 5s 9d for Tuscan, 5s 9d to 5s lOd for Hunters, and 5s lid to Os for Pearl, on trucks price in eacli case. A little business is being done In next season’s wheat at 5s Cd for Tuscan, 5s Sd for Hunters, and to 5s lid for Pearl, fowl wheat is a shade firmer, and with a good inquiry and-a short supply the quotation 'is now 6s f.0.b., s.i. The potato market is very weak and the inquiry for prompts is very small. Sellers are asking 92s 6d a ton, f.0.b., s.i., -buyers offering 90s for June delivery. Patotoes are offered at 955, with no buyers, and Julys, offered at £5 ss. also find no buyers. For July-August-September delivery, sellers are asking £5 12s 6d. The price to farmers remains at £ 3 5s a ton on trucks. The Wingatui did not load for Auckland today as intended. To date 125.000 sacks have been shipped to the North Island. Thei'e is a weakening noticeable in the onion market and the quotation at present to farmers is from £2 15s to £ 3 at ton, and that for good lines.
