DERAILED TRAIN
MISHAP AT TAIPUHA TRAFFIC SUSPENDED YESTERDAY Fifty yards of railway track was damaged in a cutting one mile north of Taipuha, near Paparoa, yesterday morning, when five wagons of a mixed train from Whangarei were derailed. All through traffic on the North Auckland line was suspended yesterday and the relaying of the track was completed at 9 o’clock this morning, whenordinary services were resumed. Gangs wore rushed to the scene of the accident. Work was made difficult by the presence of an overhead cutting at the place and the lack of room. Passengers on trains between Auckland and Whangarei were transferred at the scene of the mishap, delays being caused of several hours. The 8.40 express from Auckland waited for the Opua express, and the engines of both trains were reversed at the nearest crossings, the passengers being transferred. The trains then returned, passengers on the Opua express who were bound for "Wellington arriving in time to connect with the 7.40 express from Auckland, which was delayed for a quarter of an hour at Newmarket. The Opua express arrived at Auckland at 8.20, a little over two hours behind scheduled time.
