DIFFERENCE AT HAMILTON COUNTY COUNCIL PROTESTS

HAMILTON, Today

Advice was received by the Waikato County Council yesterday from the Transport Department that in future vehicles on four wheels could carry a, load up to 4i tons on a fourth class road and on multi-wheels up to six tons. The engineer, Mr. A. A. Woodward, considered this was excessive and the council decided to forward a strong protest to the department.

A successful year was reported at the annual meeting of the Frankton Library Committee on Monday. Subscribers, it was reported, numbered 331, compared with 308 last year, and the total number of books borrowed was 37,136, as against 32.571. The election of officers resulted: —Chairman, Mr. A. ,T. Dcnz; treasurer. Mr. A. G. Sandford; secretary, Mr. B. H. Andrews.

At the meeting of the boaxd of managers of the Hamilton Technical High School on Monday night, Mr. W. Fraser, principal, reported that the school roll now stood at 420. Thirty pupils left last term, chiefly to take up positions.

The Waikato County’s levy payable to the Waikato Hospital Board for 1930-31 amounts to £4,868 10s 4d, as against £4,741 15s -9d last year. “We can’t do anything,” said the chairman, Mr. T. Hinton, at yesterday’s council meeting, commenting on the futility of protesting regarding the increase.

“Scandalous,” was the comment of a member of the Hamilton Technical School Board of Managers on Monday evening, to describe the neglect of the Education Department to provide playing grounds for the school Other members agreed, but it was decided not to protest again until the Education Commission’s report is published.
