At a men’s service in the afternoon Mr. Bentley will answer the question, “What’s the Use of Going to Church?” At St. Paul’s, Devonport, the Rev. W. Lawson Marsh will preach at the morning and evening services. In celebration of the anniversary of Pentecost united meetings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Elsie Lincoln Benedict will give a travel talk on “The Holy Land” at the Balmoral Presbyterian Church. The Rev. T. N. Cuttle will conduct both services at the Somervell Church, Remuera. Sunday school teachers and officers will be dedicated at the Beresford Street Congregational Church tomorrow morning. The subject for the evening service will be “Robed or Robbed?” In preparation for the anniversary of Pentecost, united services will be held in the City and suburbs during the week. The annual church service of the Girl Guides’ Association is to be held in the Town Hall tomorrow afternoon, when his Excellency the GovernorGeneral will address the Guides. The Rev. S. Griffith, the Rev. G. Frost and the Rev. J. Wesley Parker will conduct the services at the Franklin Road Methodist Church. At the Pitt Street Methodist Church the Rev. W. Rowe will preach in the morning and the Rev. W. Walker in the evening. The Sacrament will be given at the close of the evening service. * * * At St. John’s Methodist Church, Ponsonby Road, the Feast of Ascension will be celebrated. The Rev. Geo Frost will conduct both services. In the evening the subject of the sermon will be “The Gifts of the Ascended Christ.” * * * “Christ. Our Deliverer,” will be the subject chosen by Mr. T. W. Silcock at the 11 o’clock morning service of the Auckland Higher Thought Temple. A musical worship meeting will be held in the evening. The first Sunday after Ascension will be celebrated by Divine services, morning and evening, at the St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell. The preacher at both services will be Canon Fancourt. * * * First Church of Christ, Christian Science, will conduct morning and evening services. A young men’s meeting will be held at the Y.M.C.A. at 4.15 p.m., and the speaker will be Mr. A. L. Silcock. The sixth week of the Harry Dawson Mission will open at the Grange Road Baptist Church, and Mr. Dawson will speak on “The Gates of Hell.” “Just Before Pentecost” will be the topic of the Rev. R. C. Roberts at the 11 o’clock service, Mount Eden Congregational Church. Services will be conducted by the Methodist Central Mission, morning and evening. An evening service will also be conducted at the Strand Theatre, commencing at seven o’clock. An exposition of historic faith will be given by Mr. H. Yolland, who will speak on “The Rationalist Repudiation of Christianity and the Historic Evidences” at the Unity Hall at 3 o’clock.
