WAIKATO HUNT MEET AT MORRINSVILLE From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLE, Friday. The first meet of the Waikato hounds at Morrinsville took place on Wednesday. Wintry weather prevailed, but the hunt was thoroughly enjoyed by the large field which turned out to meet the master, Mr. Wynn Brown, who was on Tatler. There were numerous followers by car and on foot. The properties hunted over were those of the Lockerbie homestead and Messrs. C. Cameron, £). Craig and G. Irvine. The weather was not altogether suitable for hunting, but the hounds had one very good run which was considered to be one of the best ever held at Morrinsville. The hunt concluded with an enjoyable afternoon tea provided by the Morrinsville committee. Among the field were the following: i Mrs. W. Ranstead (Banjo), Mrs. L. H. Larner (Circus), Mrs. T. McMillan (Tangi), Mrs. G. Bateman (Flying Jack), Miss E. Clarkin (Rajah), Miss I. Wiggins (Golden Glen), Miss B. McNaughten (Mavis), Miss I. Townsend (Cappy Ricks), Messrs. Gill, rider of Owairaka, winner of the Waipu Handicap, was alleged to have interfered with the second horse, Sea Cob, in the straight, but the judicial committee of the club decided to take no action. The owner of Sea Cob later appealed to the Auckland district committee against that decision, and that body upheld the appeal and reversed the places. The owners of Owairaka have now taken the matter further by appealing to the Racing Conference, and the case will be heard in Auckland next Wednesday. Mr H. R. Sellars, secretary of the conference. leaves for Auckland tomorrow in connection with the appeal. AVONDALE CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS The annual meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club will be held on July 1. Nominations for the positions of president and vice-president and for five seats on the committee will close with the secretary, Mr. A. J. Farquhar, at noon next Friday. MATU’S CHANCE WELLINGTON OPINION The Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Matu pleased by his latest work, and was very nearly at his best when he left for the north. The interruption in his preparation was not very serious and if he is class enough for the task ahead should not greatly affect his prospects. Here in Wellington, Matu, though a local representative, is not strongly favoured for the Great Northern, comments our Wellington correspondent. SUSPENSION LIFTED Press Association WANGANUI, Friday. At a meeting of the Wanganui District Committee this afternoon the sentence of one month’s suspension imposed on D. O’Connor, rider of Lin Arlington, for crossing in the Rata Hack Hurdles on the second day of the Waaganui Jockey Club’s winter fixture on May 17 was again considered. It was decided that the suspension be lifted as from 10 p.m. tomorrow. A.J.C.
