LESS CUSTOMS REVENUE
FIGURES FOR AUCKLAND BIG MOTOR SPIRIT INCREASE Less Customs revenue and beer duty. both, for the month of May and for the five months of this year, compared with the same periods of 1929, has been collected at the port of Auckland. The decrease in Customs is £5,441 for the month and £22,805 for the five months, the decrease in beer duty being £ISS for May alone and £ 0,347 for the longer period. The duty payable on motor spirit alone shows an increase, but here the growth is considerable, being more than 34 per cent. In May the amount was £7,535 greater than during the same month of last year. Over the whole period the increase is slightly more than 11 per cent. The total decrease in duties received in Auckland for the month was £5.629 and. over the whole period, £26,152. Details are as follow, last year’s figures being in parentheses: Customs: May, £147,840 (£162.170); five months, £592.440 (£924,463). Motor spirit: May, £29.377 (£21,842); five months, £160,117 (£144,325). Tyre duty: £3,580 (£2,226); five months, £12,956 (£19,630). Beer duty: £8.622 (£8,810): five months, £ 45.453 (£51.830). Total revenue: £189,419 (£195,048): five months, £1,113,996 ( £1,140,145).
