FLOODS RECEDING
MAN SWEPT AWAY IN SWOLLEN CREEK SUN SHINES IN QUEENSLAND United P.A.- — By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.45 a.m. BRISBANE, Today. Fine weather prevailed over the South Coast, and the flooded rivers and creeks are subsiding rapidly. Most of the submerged bridges have been uncovered, and normal traffic is expected to be resumed tomorrow. While crossing the flooded Callide Creek, George Watson was swept off his feet and drowned. Two men made unsuccessful attempts to rescue him.
RESERVOIR CRACKED
TOWN IN DANGER (Received 12.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Today, Following the heavy rain, water has risen alarmingly in the Inglewood reservoir, and cracks have appeared in the retaining wall. The spillways are being blasted to reduce the level by seven feet. Thousands of tons of water are still pouring in and the residents of Inglewood are moving from the danger area. RAINS IMPROVE CROPS Reed. 10.45 arm. SYDNEY, Today. The whole Commonwealth has benefited from the rains, which have broken the prolonged dry spells. In many districts the value to crops is beyond estimation. This year’s wheat harvest has been given an excellent start.
