ADVERTISING NORTH SHORE
WORK OF EXPANSION LEAGUE PROGRESS OF BUILDING At the meeting of the North Shore Expansion League last evening, Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, was elected chairman, vice Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport. The report submitted by the secretary, Mr. T. Walsh, stated that the league had been formed in September, 1927, and had functioned actively in advertising the North Shore boroughs and adjacent areas as the premier seaside resorts and residential areas of New Zealand. Booklets, films, excursions, lectures, maps, etc., had all been utilised for the purpose. A wet summer had seriously handicapped tourist traffic to the North Shore, but with forecasts of better weather for tho next few years it would be essential for the league to have ready an effective publicity campaign. PROPERTY MARKET ACTIVE Despite many pessimistic opinions, the North Shore boroughs had not felt tho slump in the property market to the same degree as some other suburbs. Speculative dealing in land had lessened, but purely utilitarian dealing had not. This was indicated by the figures available. In Devonport last year there had been 83 transfers of property, and though it was popularly believed that the borough was well built over, 33 new dwellings had been erected. More than £45,000 worth of building had been done. In Takapuna the property transfers for 12 months, to March 31, had numbered 147, and 132 building permits had been issued. At Northcote there had been 72 transfers of property in the last two years. Mr. Aldridge, in moving the adoption of the report, said the league had more than justified its existence. Mr. Williamson supported this view. Both referred to the energetic work of the secretary. This year’s officers are;—Chairman, Mr. ,T. W. Williamson; secretarytreasurer, Mr. T. Walsh; committee, Messrs. A. E. Greenslade, J. P. McPhail, A. Jasper, E. C. Walton. A. H. Wilkie, M. Blampied, O. Moller, F. Hawes, E. Nyberg, J. E. Griffiths, P. N. King. W. Marks, A. Slinger and S.
