HOME MADE MATS ARE DELIGHTFUL
INEXPENSIVE AND SIMPLE TO FASHION Plain cocoa matting;, obtainable by the yard, at bargain price, can be used to make delightful little mats. It wears well, the soft brown colour blends with nearly every furnishing scheme and when it is decorated with vivid carpet braid, the effect is extremely good. A yard and a-half of 36-inch wide matting makes a mat of suitable size for the side of a bed, or the front of a dressing table or bureau. The cut ' ends are bound with the braid, which

Old bath-sheets can be turned into different kinds of mats just as easily. Such a sheet is folded into four, so that the worn parts go against each other and then machined througn in squares to keep the folds together. The edge of the mat may be buttonholed with coloured rug-wool, and applique ducks or rabbits will make it a fascinating bath-square for Baby. The towel could be dyed before being decorated, if desired, and the edge might then be bound with washable bias binding.
