KHYBER PASS TRAMS
MOUNTAIN ROAD STOP PETITION FOR SHELTER In view of the approach of winter a ratepayer, Mr. A. B. Hammond, who had organised a petition to the City Council two years ago for the erection of a tram-shelter at the Intersection of Mountain and Khyber Pass roads asked the Transport Board this morning to have the shelter provided. The scheme obtained the favourable consideration of the City Council when that body had control of the tramways, Mr. Hammond said. Over a year ago the transport manager was instructed to have the -work done, but nothing had so far resulted. Commenting, the deputy chairman, Mr. G. Baildon, moved that construction be deferred until the board had definitely decided whether the tramstop would be retained at the present point, which was being tried out for a term. He suggested that the board’s officers make a report. “Have there been any complaints since the stop was altered?” asked Mr. M. J. Coyle. Mr. Baildon: I have heard none. Mr, E. J. Phelan: The matter is im portaDt. That is a very cold place. Mr. Baildon: I know. But I doubt whether the council would allow us to build a shelter in front of the reserve at the corner. Mr. Baildon’s motion was agreed to.
