“THE AMERICAN PRISONER”

EDEN PHJLLPOTT’S STORY FILMED The head of :l famous London library says that “The American Prisoner” is considered one of Phillpotts’s best works, and should make a film which will be of essential interest to three countries—England, Prance and America. The action is set in Cornwall a hundred years ago when the stern fastness of Dartmoor and Prineetown gaols held American and French prisoners, captured during the wars England was having at that time on land and sea. Carl Brisson plays the part of a .naval officer who falls in love with an English girl. There are passages of l»ure drama in the film, particularly the escape from the prison and astirring duel in a wood, and everybody will be happy to know that Carl has some wonderful love scenes. We shall actually hear him singing a love song to his sweetheart in an old English dravving-room. This melody will be the theme song of the production, and n. famous British publishing firm is expecting it to be a sensation. The prison of the story has only a broken wall to show nowadays as a reminder of its former horrors, but a marvellous set was built at the studio, complete with prison yard where the neighbouring peasants came to sell their goods. Latest additions to “So This is London,” Will Rogers’s latest for Fox Movietone, includes Lumsden Hare and Frank Albertson. Irene Rich, Jillian Sand and Mary Forbes were assigned Previously*
