WON £160,822

PROGENY OF MAGPIE It was to imported Magpie that Mr. Percy Miller, the studmaster at KiaOra (New South Wales), had to turn to this year to give him the biggest cheque, and it is interesting to look back in the records and see just how the sire has fared since he was taken to the stud. In the 1921-22 season the first of his stock were on the market at the yearling sales, and. they impressed buyers so much that nine .from Kia-Ora were sold for 2,911 guineas. Not one of them was a winner at two years old, but Binaku, who did not pass through the sale ring, won a two-vear-old race at Rand wick and one at Hawkesbury. That was the sire’s "recommendation the following season, when the sales of his Kia-Ora-bred progeny totalled £2,460. Among them was the illistrious Windbag, knocked down to Mr. lan Duncan for 150 guineas, and resold to Mr. Robert Miller for 20 guineas less. * Then the sire's name was made, for winners began to show up in all directions. From the nine series of sales of the stock of the horse Mr. Miller has received a fortune. Including the cheque from the sales held last month, 66.750 guineas has been paid for the yearlings by Magpie. It was not to be expected that all would be winners, but, excluding the present season, his stock have been racing for seven seasons, and between them they have won in Australia and New Zealand 371 races, and with place money have earned the huge total of £160,822 in stakes.
