FIGURES FOR FIVE YEARS Figures showing the imports and exports of timber during the past five ara are given by the Government statistician in the April Abstract of Statistics. Value. {lit 40,465,221 475,627 . 34.970,773 376.967 y T!' e value of timber produced in New Zealand during the past five years is fc nown in the following table: £ 3224-25 3.465.099 3925-26 3,438,079 1926-27 2,932,250 ~ *927-28 3,433,482 1928-29 2,099,347 The output of rough-hewn timber in Aew Zealand has shown a big decrease during the past five years, the total having fallen from 344,094,874 sup. feet in 1924-25 to 270,214.420 sup. feet in 1928-29. In that period the quantity of kauri produced lias fallen from 22,891.535 sup. feet to 10,742,967 s up. feet. There have also been big decreases in the quantity of rimu, Kahikatea, matai, and totara produced. Beech and pinus insignis show a slight increase.
