NEW CONSUMPTION CURE
WANGANUI FARMER’S CLAIM Press Association WANGANUI, Today. A claim that he has discovered a cure for consumption and other ailments affecting the* lungs is made by Robert Ireland, a retired farmer, of Wanganui. His theory is that a remedy, to be effective, must be applied in the most direct manner possible, and his treatment consists of the application of an ointment smeared on brown paper which is tied over the chest. In four or five hours the body absorbs the ointment.
Mr. V. Boyd, of Wanganui, who has been applying the ointment for some time, states that it is too early to say definitely that it is a cure. ' “I have been using it and I am much better as a result,” he said. “My doctor is pleased with the way I am shaping and told me to keep on with it.” Mr. Ireland communicated with Dr. Watt. Deputy-Chief of the Health Department, and advised him of the ingredients. Dr. Watt was sceptical about the ointment effecting cures and expressed the opinion that it would be harmful to the skin. Mr. Ireland believes that he is wrong in this and points to the fact that Mr. Boyd has been using it for some time and his skin has not been affected in any way.
