CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS
SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED IN AUCKLAND LEADING DOCTOR’S OPINION Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. If the new Chair of Obstetrics is to fulfil its purpose it should be established at Auckland University College, and not Otago, said a leading medical practitioner today. This opinion was voiced when the medical authority was invited to express his views on the statement of a medical student, that more time should be allowed for study of the subject, which recently emanated from Hamilton. "A major difficulty of the teaching at Otago has been the lack of sufficient births in the Dunedin area,” said the medical man. “This is a factor which will continue to handicap the teaching even after the new Chair is established and which ultimately may have to be faced. Rather than transfer the Chair from Dunedin after finding failure there and wasting years in trying to meet an impossible situation, it would be far better to have the Chair established at Auckland, where the population is larger, and let the best facilities be available.”
