SEDDONVILLE’S ENTERPRISE GIFT TO MR. H. E. HOLLAND ' Press Association WESTPORT, Today. The Seddonville Library, which was recently destroyed by flood following the earthquake of June 17, was officially reopened by Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, on Saturday afternoon. Congratulatory messages were read front the Prime Minister, the Minister of Mines, the Minister of Education, the PostmasterGeneral and the High Commissionerelect, the Hon. T. M. Wilford. Speeches were delivered by Councillor Niven and Mr. J. Simpson, chairman of the library committee, in eulogy of Mr. Holland's successful appeal for books to replace those destroyed by the flood. It was announced that between 2,000 and 3,000 volumes had been given by various libraries and individual citizens. Among the new books are up-to-date works on coal mining, the gift of the Mines Department. The local residents raised sufficient funds, with a grant of £SO from the Mines Department, to pay in full for the erection of the new library building. To mark Seddonville’s appreciation of Mr. Holland's effort the institution has been named the H. E. Holland Public Library. At Saturday’s gathering Mr. Holland was presented with a silvermounted walking-stick, suitably inscribed.
