DOMESTIC DISCORD

SEPARATION OF YOUNG COUPLES MAGISTRATE’S REGRET “There are far too many separation orders sought by young couples,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. “I had an inquest this morning where it appeared that a man had committed suicide as the result of someone advising him and his wife to separate.” STANLEY THOMSON, a steward, aged 23, was charged with assaulting Kathleen Thomson on Sunday morning. Mr. Adams entered a plea of guilty on his behalf. The man had been arrested by Constable Taylor at 1.15 in the morning. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said he understood Thomson and his wife were arranging a separation order. They had quarrelled on the way home from a party. Accused had twisted his wife’s arm and struck her. As soon as they reached their heme the woman had run straight to the Police Station. She was in a very nervous state and her face was covered with blood. Mr. Adams said that the wife had given some provocation by remarks she had made on the way home. They had gone to a party and both had a little too much liquor. The magistrate advised the young couple to hesitate before they made arrangements for a separation order. The Sub-Inspector: They would probablv be here again tomorrow. Mr Adams: The husband does not want’ to be separated from his wife. He wants her to come back to him “Well he’s been locked up all night, and that will just about make up for it,” commented the son was convicted and discharged.
