RAIN SPOILS TAKAPUNA FUNCTION BUT QUITE SUCCESSFUL Saturday’s bad weather conditions were responsible for the garden party, organised by the Alethodists of Takapuna, becoming an inside affair. The spacious grounds of the residence of Mr. T. B. Arthur, Clifton Road, were to have been utilised for the function but Airs. Arthur turned her house over rather than have the fair postponed The attendance of the public was surprisingly good, and quite satisfactory business was done. In conjunction with the cakes stall, a cooking competition and exhibition was held. The stall was in charge ol Airs. Forman, the judges being Airs. Richards and Airs. AlacGregor. Results were as under: Plain scones, Airs. Everiss; fruit scones, Airs* Everiss; gems. Airs. Lewis; fancy bread, Airs. Bioletti; shortbread, Airs. Billett; macaioons, Aliss Joyce Roper; decorated sponge, Airs. Allnutt; butter sponge, Airs. Cotterill; fruit cake. Airs. Sinclair; queen cakes, Airs. J. Thompson; utility cake (lunch), Airs. Lewis.
