MUNICIPAL MUSIC

BAND AND ORGAN CONCERTS There was a good attendance at the Town Hall on Saturday evening when a very enjoyable concert was given by the Municipal Band. That the band concerts rank among the most popular of the City’s musical entertainments is evidenced by the consistently good attendances and the appreciation with which the programmes are received. Also well received was the suite, “In a Lovers’ Garden,” a pretty little musical tale in three parts. The suite was skilfully handled and some really excellent effects were achieved. “A Forest Wooing,” another little descriptive piece, was also well received. One hundred melodies were used :i ; the construction of “Tangled Tunes, a very interesting potpourri which ; was brightly performed. The final j number, “Gems from Famous Operas, by Sullivan, was received with the appreciation always accorded this composer’s works. A cornet solo. “The Carnival of Venice,” by Mr. J. Davis, and a flute solo. “The Swallows’ Flight.” were both popular contributions.
