SALVATION ARMY HALL

OPENED AT HAMILTON WELCOME TO COMMISSIONER From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Sunday. The Salvation Army's new cliureli hall in Boyce Street was opened by Commissioner Cunningham yesterday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, unfurled the flag above the new building, and presided over the service that immediately followed. The Hamilton Minister’s Association was represented by the Rev. B. Paris and the Rev. H. G. Gilbert. A civic reception was given to Commissioner Cunningham in the Town Hall before the opening ceremony. The Mayor said he deemed it an honour to be able to give a civic reception to a leader of a world-wide organisation. Crs. C. Lafferty and D. D. Wilson also ’ welcomed the commissioner. In reply, the commissioner thanked the Mayor and members of the council. During the service in the new hall a financial statement was submitted showing that of the expenditure of £3,050 incurred there still remained a debit to be met of £I,OOO. The new hall, which has seating accommodation for 350 people, is constructed of brick and concrete. The interior measurements are 60ft by 30ft. There are three rooms at the back for the use of the band and the officers and sisters.
