TENNIS IN WELLINGTON

School tennis is making considerable progress in Wellington under the guidance of Mr. W. J. Melody, who may be termed organiser-in-chief. When these games were first started in 1913 there were 228 entries, and that was considered very good, but for this year’s tournament there were 1,048. It would have been greater still but for the decision to restrict the number of entries from each school to ten, boys or girls. This year it was also decided to divide the entries into A and B, classes, and altogether over 7uo matches will have been played when the tournament ends in about a fortnight’s time. Twentyeight primary schools are represented, all the city schools sending a contingent, while suburban and country schools are also well represented.
